One day soon, diesel options for Honda cars may be available for a test drive at Rockingham Honda - 360 North Broadway in Salem, New Hampshire. As of now, diesel is still beginning to regain popularity throughout North America. However, in countries like England, France and Germany, diesel is one of the most popular types of fuel.
In India, gasoline prices are skyrocketing, in part due to their massive population. To combat a possible fuel crisis, exporters of cars to India, like Honda, are creating alternative engines for smaller vehicles. A Honda Fit with diesel powerplant will be available throughout the large country.
Honda Siel Cars India senior vice-president (Sales and Marketing), Jnaneswar Sen, said, "The Research and Development team in Japan is developing diesel engines. It is premature to say that the products will be rolled out on diesel (platform)."1
Honda vehicles represent about 20% of the Indian automotive market. Two of its best performers include Brio (an India exclusive) and Jazz (Europe and Australia's name for Fit). Fit / Jazz is one of the best selling Honda vehicles globally, and is available in base, sporty and hybrid variants (except in America).
